Oakley - just North of Bedford. A fully loaded coal train from Wellingborough to Brent Marshalling Yards in London ran into the back of another stationary coal train from Toton (Nottingham) heading to the same place in London. It happened on a Viaduct over the River Ouse. The Wellingborough Engine and a number of coal trucks fell 40 feet into a meadow near the river. Sadly the Driver and Fireman,(both from Wellingbrough) were killed. (The Engine was Stanier 8F 48644)
